Shopping 4: Please give me a bag.

1.  봉투 필요하세요?
Do you need a bag?
bong-too  pee-lyo-hah-say-yo?

Break it down:
봉투:  bag
필요하다:  to need
-세요:  polite verb ending

At Korean supermarkets you usually have to pay extra for bags, about 500 won.




2.  봉투 주세요.
Please give me a bag.
bong-too  joo-say-yo

Break it down:
봉투:  bag
주세요:  please give




3.  쓰레기?  종이?
Trash (bag)?  Paper?
suh-leh-gee?  jong-ee?

In Korea you don't usually buy garbage bags in packs.  Rather, the plastic bags they give you at the supermarket are to be used for garbage.




4.  봉투 두 개 주세요.
Please give me two bags.
bong-too  doo-gay  joo-say-yo

Break it down:
봉투:  bag
둘:  two
개:  counting word
주세요:  please give

Also:
봉투 한 개:  one bag
봉투 두 개:  two bags
봉투 세 개:  three bags
봉투 네 개:  four bags
봉투 열 개: ten bags

There are two ways to say numbers in Korean.  Use 일, 이, 삼... when talking about money.  And use 한 개, 두 개, 세 개... when asking for a number of things.

You'll also use this numbering system for ages and telling time.
